To go "through a purple patch" is an old English colloquialism that means to experience a period of well being. This series in which I was observing the dappled sunlight of springtime in the Midwest is an homage to Monet culminating in the painting on three conjoined canvases, Through a Purple Patch, inspired by his large Water Lilies at MoMA.
