This piece is part of a series of paintings in which I am seeking to express the atmosphere of anxiety in these political times. Astasia is the inability to stand unassisted, and Abasia is the inability to walk unassisted. These conditions often occur together and are psychogenic, meaning the cause is not physical but can be brought on by psychological trauma.
